JACOB YOUNG

Jacob Young was lead producer for two seasons of the internationally acclaimed documentary series DIFFERENT DRUMMER, broadcast by the BBC and Public TV.
He is known for writing, shooting, and editing his own projects, and his documentaries have been selected for numerous awards and festivals, including SXSW and Sundance. His first independent film, APPALACHIAN JUNKUMENTARY, was purchased by over 90 PBS stations and won the 1988 PBS Special Achievement Award. The London Independent described his work as “John Waters meets Tennessee Williams,” while Howard Rosenberg, TV critic of the Los Angeles Times, spoke of his work as “documentary story-telling at it’s best and most creative.”
Young was the recipient of an Emmy Award and a national award from the American Film Institute for his sensational cult classic, DANCING OUTLAW. DANCING OUTLAW was cited by the Oxford American as one of the ten best southern documentaries of all time.
Having completed over eighteen unique documentary programs, Young recently premiered a feature length doc entitled THE OBJECT -THE URIM AND THUMMIM. He is a lifelong resident of West Virginia and much of his work deals with Appalachian people and Mountain culture.
